This UK city, famous for its beautiful architecture, has been named one of the best places in the world for food.

Liverpool is giving London a run for its money, according to recent rankings, as the capital didn't even make the top 20.

This year, TimeOut magazine crowned the city the eleventh-best city globally, based on "good quality meals at reasonable prices".

The survey of UK locals analysed popular street food vendors and restaurants in Liverpool.

Respondents favourite meal was Liverpool's famed meaty stew dish known as Scouse, which has even lent the city's residents their 'Scouser' nickname.

Writer Alice Porter said: "Liverpool is perhaps better known for its nightlife than its food, but a host of new foodie ventures have earned the city a fresh reputation for its dining scene.

"This is largely thanks to local talent: chefs like Paul Durand, who launched the Michelin-mentioned Manifest in 2022, and Sam Grainger, owner of the small-plates restaurant Belzan and Mexican taqueria Madre.

"All are well worth making the trip to Liverpool for."

Locals were quizzed on their city’s must-visit restaurants, must-eat dishes and best-value bites, and were also asked to rate their city’s food scene on both its quality and affordability.

In the 19th century, Liverpool rose to global economic importance at the forefront of the Industrial Revolution.

As well as being top for one of the best places for food in the world, Liverpool is also famed for its vibrant nightlife and music scene.

Not including London, Liverpool also has the most museums and art galleries in the UK.

It also home to the Beatles and two hugely successful football clubs, Liverpool FC and Everton.
