Royal author claims Meghan Markle “wasn’t prepared” for the “obvious” realities of royal life.

The Duchess of Sussex was completely unprepared for the realities of royal life, according to reports, despite the multiple warnings from Prince Harry about what her life would become.

Tom Quinn’s analogy of the couple comes a few years after Harry and Meghan decided to stand down from royal duties and move to California.

The couple first started dating in 2016, when Meghan Markle was still pursuing acting, however the limelight of Hollywood fame differed more than she expected when coming under scrutiny as a royal wife.

Harry was said to be so worried about the impact of the new found fame on Meghan that he sat her down to explain his worries.

The couple's move to the US was labelled ‘Megxit’, initially using media scrutiny and the rigorous structure of their roles as the reasons for it. However, through various interviews and media appearances, the real reasons came to light.

An inside source said: "There is so much bad blood in that family – it's toxic." This followed the infamous Oprah Winfrey interview in 2021, where Meghan implied a member of the family was racist towards her.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Express US, Quinn the author of Gilded Youth: An Intimate History of Growing Up in the Royal Family, provides an alternative explanation for Megxit.

"Meghan comes from a society where if you're talented and driven, you can get to the top," he explained.

Mr Quinn makes the point that a monarchy which you are born into is the antithesis of the American ideologies and values, claiming that Meghan ‘just wasn’t prepared for that’.

Being unable to rise up the pecking order and being bound by the bloodline helped to solidify the couple's decision to forge a new life in America, the royal author explains.

"You can't change the fact that William and Kate are number one," Mr Quinn added.

Since living in California with their young children, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3, there has been oodles of speculation over the families return to the UK.

The Duke of Sussex has visited home a number of times for events and work, yet Meghan has not returned in two years, with her last visit being for the late Queen’s funeral in September 2022.
