Princess Kate's brother made a sad confession about life once his sister started dating Prince William.

James Middleton spoke to the Telegraph about how he spends his weekend and gave insights into his childhood with Kate and Pippa, before they were launched into fame.

When discussing lunch, he said: “I found my 20s really challenging. I’ve only figured out who I am after going through depression.

“I wish I hadn’t had to go through it to find it. But if you don’t have hard times you can’t appreciate the good ones.

“There was an added pressure when Catherine and William started dating. I’m famous by default; the association has never been my choice.”

The now-Princess of Wales met Prince William while studying at St Andrews in 2001. They started dating in their second year and later moved in together.

Their relationship went public in 2004. The couple split for a few months in 2007 but got back together and went on to get engaged in 2010 and married in 2011.

James Middleton said of his time in the spotlight due to his connection to the royals: “There are certain things I’ve learnt, like not to wear drag to a Halloween party because you’ll find yourself in the papers as a 'cross-dressing brother.'

“But I can’t look back thinking, 'How would I have done things differently.' The peace of the countryside helps maintain our mental wellbeing; it was part of our reason for moving out of London after 11 years.

“It sounds like a joke, but we try to live like our dogs. They’re not worrying about tomorrow or yesterday.”

He also said in an interview with Us Weekly of how proud he is of Kate: “Catherine is very much on a public stage and I’m in awe of a lot of the things she does. I think the thing I’m most proud of is that she’s still the same person that I grew up with.”
