Prince Harry's recent solo visits have received "positive" feedback which must be a "relief" for the Duke of Sussex, a royal expert has said.

Prince Harry visited Lesotho, a small country in southern Africa, after he co-founded Sentebale in 2006, a youth HIV charity in honour of his late mother, Princess Diana.

He began his trip on Tuesday, 1 October, by meeting with young people and sharing experiences around a campfire. He also visited the country’s Prime Minister Sam Matekane the following day. It came after Harry visited the UK to attend the WellChild Awards.

Meghan Markle, his wife and their children Archie and Lilibet did not travel with him.

Royal biographer Hugo Vickers spoke about the prince’s recent solo trips and said it must be a "relief" they have been welcomed so positively.

He said: "What he seems to be doing now, which is rather wonderful, is doing what he used to do so well, which is engaging with youngsters and giving them awards rather than receiving an award.

"And, you know, I've seen him at work when he was a working Royal in the Caribbean, and they absolutely loved him out there.

"He played cricket with the children, played football with them.

"He really engaged with them, and he seems to be doing that, and he is indeed doing it on his own without Meghan Markle.

"Now, whether that's simply because she's at home with the children that could be, or it may be a strategic move."

He added: "There seems to be quite a positive reaction to Prince Harry, and this new move, whatever it it actually is."

The Duke also made a trip to the UK without Meghan where he attended the WellChild Awards, meeting seriously ill young children and their families.

He made four trips to the UK this year, none of which Meghan had joined him for.

Mr Vickers said: "I must say I do think that his recent visit to London and his visit to South Africa so far has been very well received, and seems all to be very positive.

"Which is quite a relief after what's been going on before."

Mr Vickers mentioned Prince Harry’s connection to Africa due to the time he has spent there and his mother, Princess Diana’s charitable work in the continent.

He said: “I think Africa, Lesotho, Botswana, has a very, very strong place in Prince Harry's heart."

And went on to add that despite Meghan also being “very interested in the African countries” she seems to be “lying low recently".
