Skaugum, the Norwegian royal residence of Crown Prince Haakon and Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, has been burgled.

According to Norwegian news outlet Se og Hør, the burglary happened after Princess Mette-Marit's son Marius Borg Høiby held a "wild" party at the Palace.

Reports state that members of a known motorcycle gang stole private items both of high crown value and personal value to the Royal Family.

In a video obtained by the Norwegian newspaper, an unidentified person films themselves using a segway to navigate Princess Mette-Marit and Prince Haakon's private apartment - which was ransacked with items strewn across the floor.

Valuable silverware is also said to have been stolen, which the thieves reportedly tried to sell via an auction house.

The news comes just weeks after the arrest of the princess's 27-year-old son in August, which was followed by a second arrest earlier this month.

Borg Høiby was first arrested and detained on August 4, on suspicion of "physically and psychologically" assaulting a 20-year-old woman in her apartment, believed to be his girlfriend.

Police in Oslo also confirmed that the royal was detained and released with more charges on September 14 after he allegedly contacted the victim from a hidden phone number, despite a restraining order in place.

Skaugum is dubbed a "safe and private" retreat for the Norwegian Royal Family, and has been home to the Crown Prince and Princess since 2003.

Upon moving in, the royal couple renovated the property, turning it into a collection of luxury apartments to modernise the Palace.

Few glimpses have been seen inside the Crown Prince and Princess's private Skaugum apartment.

During the pandemic, the royals shared a photograph from inside their home office during a video conference.

The room had a chic blue interior, with wooden panelling on the lower half of the walls, while artwork and a gold-framed mirror finished off the decorative touches.
