Prince Harry is seeking to carve out new opportunities by "trying to rehabilitate his image" following a series of recent "flops", a royal commentator claims.

The Duke of Sussex, 40, took to the stage in New York on Tuesday at the Clinton Global Initiative, urging the world to tackle the "pervasive threat" the online world poses for children, warning: "Our kids can't wait".

In the Big Apple, his brother Prince William, 42, made a speech to an even more connected group of people in a video message addressing a UN General Assembly event on the environment.

The Prince of Wales said the world's wildlife, habitat and natural resources "buckling under the pressure of our actions".

According to royal commentator Kinsey Schofield, both Harry and his wife Meghan Markle are trying to re-charge their image after the success of some projects last year.

Speaking to GB News about Prince Harry's New York trip, she said: "Harry and Meghan last year versus this year, they had headlines like from Rolling Stone magazine, Harry and Meghan in their flop era.

"What have they accomplished since then that is tangible? Not really anything. You know, they've had several Netflix flops. They did have their big blockbuster, but everything else has not connected with audiences.

"What I think we're seeing from Prince Harry in New York right now is him trying to rehabilitate his image. Spare was a commercial success, but he became a punchline here in the States."

Ms Schofield believes Prince Harry is trying to "redeem himself", noting: "He's trying to become a respected thought leader, and that's really what these visuals are in New York. And when we see Harry and Meghan on some of these tours."

New York was the setting for the third annual Earthshot Innovation Summit on Tuesday where, by video message, Prince William announced the finalist in his Earthshot Prize environmental award.

William told a reception of world and indigenous leaders gathered to discuss biodiversity: "Thankfully, in 2022 the world adopted the Biodiversity Plan in Montreal and committed to transformative action to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by 2030.

"But, we now have just five years to deliver on our collective promise."

Prince Harry took part in the Clinton Global Initiative in New York on Tuesday, appearing as a star guest, close to the end of the session entitled Everything Everywhere All At Once.

He suggested the harmful effects of social media meant people were being used for a "human experiment" rather than enjoying a "human experience".

The King's youngest son followed appearances earlier in the session by primatologist Jane Goodall, celebrity chef and humanitarian Jose Andres, former US president Bill Clinton, US politician and head of Nasa Bill Nelson, and billionaire philanthropists Hamdi Ulukaya, the boss of the US yoghurt firm Chobani, and Laurene Powell Jobs, who is the widow of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.
