Lorraine Kelly reacts to Dancing with the Stars controversy

ITV's beloved Lorraine Kelly didn't mince her words when discussing the controversial addition of Anna Delvey to the cast of the US hit show, Dancing With the Stars.

On her programme, Lorraine chatted with entertainment correspondent Ross King about the somewhat dubious roster of competitors on the show.

She said: "Now, we've had our troubles with Strictly over here but goodness me, Dancing With the Stars what's going on?!"

As Ross elaborated on Anna's participation in the show, he made a cheeky reference, noting that he was using "star" in quite a broad sense.

His said: "She is on Dancing With the Stars, complete with, are you ready for this? An ankle tag that has been bejewelled for the occasion.

"She Cha Cha Cha'd wearing it. Here's the best part Lorraine to really make you mad, she was not introduced as a convicted criminal, she was introduced as an entrepreneur and fashionista."

Lorraine couldn't hide her exasperation with the show's choice of introduction for the 33-year-old, pledging to give the series a miss entirely, reports the Mirror.

Expressing her thoughts, she fumed: "Oh come on! That's ridiculous, I mean she's a fraudster! She's a fraudster and a grifter.

"That is absolutely outrageous, I'm not happy at all. I'm not watching it. Not watching it."

When Ross deemed the situation ridiculous, Lorraine was seen vehemently nodding in agreement, in clear disapproval.

Lorraine fumed: "I just don't understand, it's all mad."

Anna Sorokin, who adopted the alias Anna Delvey, became infamous after swindling New York socialites and financial institutions, a tale dramatised by Netflix in the series Inventing Anna.

The tale is based on the real-life story of a young woman who duped New York's high society into believing she was a German heiress.

In 2019, she was convicted on eight counts, having swindled an estimated $275,000 from banks, hotels, and individuals to maintain her lavish lifestyle.

Anna was sentenced to serve between four and 12 years in prison, fined $24,000, and ordered to compensate her victims.

However, in 2022, she was released from prison and placed under house arrest, explaining why she can be seen dancing with an ankle monitor.

Lorraine continues weekdays on ITV from 9am.
