As the cost of living continues to pinch, money-saving hacks are all the rage.

Many would perhaps scoff at the idea of royals needing to watch the purse strings - but that doesn’t stop them from occasionally being a bit more frugal.

One apparent advocate of the approach is Princess Kate - who has demonstrated several ways everyone can save a bit of cash.

Jason Higgs, a financial expert and the senior deals strategist at Bountii, analyses the royal strategies that can help you stretch your budget and manage your finances in today’s tough economy.

Rewearing Outfits

Kate Middleton has embraced the practice of re-wearing outfits, with Kate mixing and matching previously worn clothes to create new looks.

Jason said: "Rewearing outfits is a practical strategy for managing clothing expenses and minimising waste.”

Savvy home decor

Ikea is a retailer renowned for its affordable home furnishings - and perhaps surprisingly for some Princess Kate is a fan.

Prince George and Princess Charlotte have previously had Ikea furniture in their bedrooms.

Jason said: "Opting for budget-friendly home decor can help you save money without compromising."

Discount store delight

Kate also has been spotted at discount stores including at The Range.

She was once spotted buying items just days before Christmas in 2018 at a place nobody would have guessed - at a branch of the discount store close to the King's Sandringham estate

"Shopping at discount stores can help you find fantastic deals and save a lot of money," Jason notes.

Fashion on a budget

Kate Middleton is known for affordable fashion picks, including finding great deals at Zara.

The Princess of Wales was spotted in her go-to £66 blazer from a popular high street store at the Rugby World Cup qualifiers in Marseille last year.

As well as being an ace hand at bargain hunting, the Princess of Wales once had a "normal" job - just like millions of other Britons.

Before stepping into the royal spotlight, and attending the University of St Andrews in Scotland, where she met her future husband, Kate worked as a deckhand at the Ocean Village Marina in Southampton.

One of the skippers Kate worked under at the time, Cal Tomlinson, spoke to author Katie Nicholl for her biography Kate: The Future Queen. As reported in the Daily Mail, he said: "It was back-breaking work. Kate mucked in and was very professional. She fitted right in, although she did stand out for being so pretty."

Princess Kate also worked part-time as a waitress in a job far removed from her current royal role.

Kate once told renowned chef, Mary Berry, during a BBC Christmas special that she was "terrible" at serving the public in her hospitality role.
