A biographer who has been dubbed Meghan Markle's 'mouthpiece' and is working on a new TV drama about life at Buckingham Palace has been savaged by a rival royal writer in a brutal put-down.

Omid Scobie penned Finding Freedom, which claimed to dispel "the many rumours and misconceptions that plague" the "confident, influential, and forward-thinking" Duke and Duchess of Sussex. He also wrote Endgame, which purported to reveal the "Royal family and the monarchy's fight for survival" - and painted a picture of an "unpopular king" and a "power-hungry heir to the throne".

Now, Universal Television has reportedly acquired the right to turn Omid’s royal novels into a fictional TV series called Royal Spin - named after Scobie’s official fiction debut. It tells the story of an American press agent who leaves behind a political career in Washington DC to take up a communications role at Buckingham Palace.

Some readers have suggested it has parallels with Meghan Markle's struggles to adapt to rocky royal life. And, given his history, there are some concerns that Scobie's depiction of royal life will be less than flattering.

However, another Royal author has suggested that the Prince and Princess of Wales won't be too worried. Phil Dampier told The Sun's Fabulous magazine the royal couple simply have more important things going in their lives at the moment.

Dampier said they will, instead, be focusing on Kate's recovery from cancer - and King Charles's treatment for the disease. And he also issued a withering dismissal of Scobie's new drama.

The Prince And Princess Of Wales

He said he "can’t see it getting much publicity" - and suggested it will suffer the same fate as another TV royal show, The Crown. Dampier said Netflix's drama started to "fall flat in its last couple of series” - and “became a bit of a joke because it was so inaccurate”.

Dampier said he expects the same will be said of Scobie's "so-called drama, which is just fiction". And, pulling no punches, the writer also went in on his rival's previous book.

"Scobie's last book Endgame bombed and turned out to be all gong and no dinner, with few factual revelations," said Dampier. "It didn’t sell well and so it looks as though he is now desperately trying to use a novel to get his message across."

And he then put the boot in, adding: “As much of what he [Scobie] has written is fiction, he may as well do so."

Harry and Meghan

Scobie's Endgame claims William deliberately distanced himself from his brother after he married Meghan, despite he and Kate attending high-profile events with the Sussexes afterwards. It also alleges that Charles did not attempt to repair his relationship with Harry after Megxit — despite inviting his son to his Coronation.

Engame's Amazon blurb says "Queen Elizabeth II’s death ruptured the already-fractured foundations of the House of Windsor". It described an institution that is "long plagued by incidents involving antiquated ideas around race, class and money".

It adds: "Scobie pulls back the curtain on an institution in turmoil to show what the monarchy must change in order to survive. This is the monarchy’s endgame. Do they have what it takes to save it?"
