Prince William and Princess Kate have made a major new hire for a key role in their charity.

The Prince and Princess of Wales's Royal Foundation has appointed former Tesco boss, Sir David Lewis, as a director on the charity's board of Trustees.

Sir Dave, who was knighted in 2021 for services to the food industry and business, worked for more than 27 years for giant consumer goods company Unilever and from 2014 to 2020, he became Tesco's CEO.

According to filings made to Companies House on July 2, the businessman was appointed director of the Royal Foundation of the Prince and Princess of Wales on June 20.

Wiliam and Kate's charity supports their non-profit work and supports projects involving conservation, environmental issues, early childhood development, mental health, emergency services, and homelessness.

The charity claims on its website that it "mobilises leaders, businesses and people so that together we can address society’s greatest challenges."

It was first set up back in 2009 by Prince William and Prince Harry to take forward their charity work.

After their marriages to Princess Kate and Meghan Markle in 2011 and 2018 respectively, the two women became patrons of the charity.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex left the Royal Foundation in 2019, shortly before they quit the Royal Family in early 2020 and moved to the US.

One of William's passion projects, the Earthshot Prize, was run by the Foundation until July 2022, when it was announced that after two years, it had become an independent charity.

The same year, the Royal Foundation reported £20.4million in income for 2021, £12.1million of which was the the Earthshot Prize.

Kensington Palace declined to comment.
