Trooping the Colour: Smiling Kate joins Royals in parade

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle used the late Princess Diana's jewels as a "powerful message" to the Royal Family, a style expert has claimed.

During the couple's visit to Nigeria last month, Meghan opted to wear a sentimental necklace that belonged to his late mother at a reception for military families in Abuja. The necklace featured a diamond cross on a gold chain and is thought to be a recent gift from Harry to his wife, who he has been married to for six years.

Speaking recently to GB News, James Harris - who is the Regional Sales Manager at Austen & Blake - said: "Meghan Markle’s three-day trip to Nigeria with Prince Harry saw her wearing sentimental jewellery that didn’t go unnoticed. One such stunning piece was a delicate cross-pendant adorned with sparkling diamonds paired with a gold chain.

"The cross pendant, while beautiful in its craftsmanship, could have carried a deeper significance. Traditionally, a cross pendant symbolises faith, hope, and protection. For many, it represents a connection to one's spiritual beliefs and a reminder of resilience and strength in times of adversity.

"In Meghan’s case, the cross might also be seen as a symbol of unity and peace, reflecting her commitment to humanitarian efforts and her dedication to fostering understanding across cultures."

The "symbol of unity and peace" could have been seen as a subtle message from Meghan to the Royal Family, whom she and Harry have had a strained relationship with for many years - especially since their decision to step down as senior royals at the start of 2020.

Seeing Princess Kate return can 'inspire' cancer patients, charities say

Charity leaders have said seeing the Princess of Wales return to public life may "inspire" other people who are managing the challenging effects of cancer treatment.

Princess Kate looked relaxed during her first day in the spotlight on Saturday since announcing her cancer diagnosis in March as she took part in the traditional Trooping the Colour ceremony.

In a statement released on Friday, Kate said she is making "good progress" and experiencing "good days and bad days" as she undergoes chemotherapy.

A Macmillan Cancer Support spokesman said: "It's an absolute pleasure to see her Royal Highness, the Princess of Wales' at Trooping the Colour today.

"As her Royal Highness said in her comments yesterday, cancer treatment can come with both good days and bad days, and I'm sure her attending the event will inspire so many people around the world who are managing the challenging effects of cancer treatment."

James, Earl of Wessex was notably absent from Trooping the Colour, despite his older sister, Lady Louise Windsor making a welcome appearance.

James, 16, is currently studying at school in Surrey and it's most likely that his busy schedule, revision, and end-of-year exams prevented him from travelling down to central London.
