ROYAL RESCUE: How Meghan Markle won Prince Charles' heart and helped heal royal rift
MEGHAN Markle has struck up a “close bond” with her father-in-law, Prince Charles, according to a royal insider.
Prince Charles: Harry recalls asking him to give Meghan away
Meghan and Charles have reportedly bonded over their interest art and culture. Charles is also teaching the Duchess of Sussex about the history of the royal family. An insider said: “Meghan has been learning about all the royal history through her time spent with the Prince.
“They have a shared love of history, art and culture, and that’s the common ground between them.
“The Duchess has shown a genuine interest in learning more about the history of the family she has married into and her father-in-law has been delighted to impart some of his knowledge.”
Meghan’s arrival on the royal scene has also helped improve Prince Harry’s relationship with Charles, a source has claimed.
Harry proposed to Meghan in November 2017, months after the 20th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death when feelings were running high between Charles and his sons.
The source told The Telegraph: “The Prince has always been close to Harry, but it’s no secret that August 2017 was very difficult.
“That summer took both of the Dukes back to a very difficult time, and the tensions were painful for everyone.
“But they’ve come out of that and reconnected, and I think Meghan has helped in that.
“Her message to Harry has been: ‘Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater.’”
Charles walked Meghan down the aisle at the royal wedding last May after her father Thomas Markle pulled out at the last minute.
Reflecting on the touching moment in a documentary six months later, Harry said: “I asked him to and I think he knew it was coming and he immediately said, ‘Yes, of course, I’ll do whatever Meghan needs and I’m here to support you’.
“For him that’s a fantastic opportunity to step up and be that support, and you know he’s our father so of course he’s gonna be there for us.”
Charles was also praised for looking after Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland, who was her only family member to attend the big day.
Speaking in the documentary, Camilla said: “A lot of people, seeing my husband actually take the bride’s mother by the hand to sign the registry, it’s something that moved everybody.
“It’s the things he does behind the scenes that people don’t know about.
“I don’t think people realise quite how kind he is.”
Meghan and Harry will be among guests at a reception hosted by the Queen today to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the investiture of the Prince of Wales.
Prince William and Kate will also attend the event at Buckingham Palace.
