Gardening is a big job - even once you've sorted out your plants and cleared the patio, you've got a task on your hands to find nice weatherproof garden furniture to go in it. Unless you're happy to constantly move things in and out of a shed or conservatory, a reliable outdoor bench can be a lifesaver to leave in your seating area.

Dunelm has a great option on this front in the form of the Dorothea 2 Seater Bench, which just so happens to be 20% off right now, at £135.20 instead of £169. It's a classic-looking metallic bench with space for two people to sit side by side and an elegant design featuring lovely curls and accents.

You can pick it up in either a natural metal finish or black. The Dorothea is quite a new addition to Dunelm's catalogue and has only nine reviews so far, but with an overall rating of 4.3, those who have picked it up seem pretty happy with their purchase.

One person wrote: "This is a smart two-seater bench and easy to assemble. I bought two of the Dunelm bench cushions (Rhubarb Striped Colour) and used them in the vertical, providing comfort for both the bottom and back. My only regret is that I wished I'd waited and bought the bench in the sale."

That's a great reminder that this sort of bench really sings when you add cushions to it, although another reviewer had something to say on that front: "Great value for money, such a cute little bench and comfy even without cushions." So, going from that, you might not need cushions after all. A third reviewer wrote: "I am thrilled not only with the quality of the benches but their highly elegant design."

If there's any discontent in these reviews (and no one has rated it lower than three stars, which shows there isn't much) it's that the bench does require assembly upon delivery, which isn't made all that clear. This has been noted by a few of the buyers, like one who said: "Fab bench hadn't realised own assembly, but easy to do and solid and stylish finish."

Another said similarly: "Lovely bench but you do have to put it together and it’s a dark bronze colour!" The Dorothea 2 Seater Bench is a safe choice if you're seeking a new metal bench for your garden but for something with a modern look, there's the Habitat Indu 2 Seater Metal Garden Bench, available for a very similar price at £130 on Argos. Meanwhile, if you want to spend less the Keswick 2 Seater from B&Q is £48.95.
