Gardeners' World star Carol Klein has shared a health update after previously revealing her breast cancer diagnosis.

The 78 year old expert had initially disclosed her cancer battle to her followers in early May. She revealed that she had undergone a double mastectomy and now, while presenting at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show for the BBC, Carol has joyfully announced that she has been given the all-clear.

In an Instagram video posted on June 6, the BBC favourite shared she has written a new memoir called Hortobiography before giving an update on her recent health woes.

She said: "It's been quite a challenging year. I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and I had a double mastectomy." In a four-word admission, Carol added: "I'm now cancer-free."

On May 31 the presenter revealed she had undergone an operation following her cancer diagnosis.

Carol said: "A few weeks I made a post on Instagram and told you all about what had been happening to me. Earlier this year I was diagnosed with breast cancer and as a result, I had a double mastectomy."

She continued: "I also had another small operation the week before Chelsea, but I was able to do Chelsea, I hope successfully. And whilst I was there I got a call from my surgeon Dr Anna Conway who gave me the very good news that my cancer has gone."

"I'm really making this post because I want to thank you all, everybody who sent me so many wonderful messages and really kept my spirits up through that."

The on-screen star added: "Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all the team at North Devon District Hospital, the breast care team, they were brilliant. Thanks to our NHS."

She also stated: "Now I know that everybody has been affected in some way or another by cancer. Either for themselves or for friends and relatives."

"And I just want you to know that I'm thinking about you, sending you lots of love, loads of strength and here's to the future."

The Gardeners' World star was flooded with messages of support as one social media user penned: "Wonderful news Carol. It was so good to see you at Chelsea. Having treatment myself and you don't know how inspiring it is to see public figures talk about it."

Another commented: "Lots of love and get back to full strength soon - To the future!"

A third added: "Great to see you looking so well. That’s great news Carol."

Speaking about her diagnosis in May, the TV star bravely told fans: "Hello everyone, isn't it marvellous to see the sun out at last! I just wanted to get in touch with you and keep you up to date with what has been happening to me recently."

"A few weeks ago I was referred to the breast care clinic at my local hospital and after tests I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Having consulted with my family and all the doctors, it was decided that I'd have a double mastectomy and that was carried out on April 3."

"Since then I've been recovering at home and recuperating. I've sown any amount of seeds, and I've been finessing my upcoming book, so it's given me lots of opportunity to do that."

"Well I just want to thank Dr. Anna Conway and all the staff of the breast care clinic at North Devon District Hospital for their care and kindness and also their incredible efficiency. They've been brilliant, a real tribute to the NHS."
