Alan Titchmarsh was warned by his wife as she banned him from appearing on a top TV show.

The presenter, 75, has been on screens for more than 40 years, with his gardening expertise leading him to host the Chelsea Flower Show for the BBC in 1983.

While he is one of the country's most popular presenters, fans will unfortunately never get to see him show off his moves on Strictly Come Dancing because his wife Alison, who he has been happily married to since 1975, won't allow him to.

The former Gardeners' World presenter revealed the BBC have approached him a whopping six times to appear on the hit show, however, he has been advised against it due to Alison's concerns for his health.

During an interview with Saga magazine, Alan said: "Alison was a dance tutor and she is convinced my knees wouldn’t stay the course."

This isn't the only thing preventing the Ground Force host from taking part in the BBC competition.

He added: "On top of that, it is a huge commitment; you start in September and you might be there until Christmas. There’s too much other stuff I need to be getting on with."

Alan previously spoke about "taking tablets every day" after opening up about fears that he could die "relatively young". The confession came after his dad died aged 62 from heart disease.

In September 2014, the TV gardener told Yours magazine: "I’m on statins. I wish I wasn’t. I don’t like the thought of taking tablets every day, but I’m following my doctor’s advice. He thinks it’s a good idea."

Alan continued: "The thing is, the men in my family have had a tendency to die from heart disease at a relatively young age. My dad, for instance, died suddenly in 1986 from a heart attack, aged just 62."

The star also admitted that he has "stabbing pains in the back" from carrying paving slabs and large posts. At another time, he said: "Outliving my dad has made me think about things. The truth of the matter is that I’ve decided to ease up a bit, and pace myself."
