Wheeler Dealers host Mike Brewer claims a popular Mini Cooper will soon become a “modern classic” with prices set to rise.

The host of the popular classic car restoration programme admitted values of a particular Cooper were “on the accent” in a boost for owners.

Mike revealed first-generation designs released almost 20 years ago were the ones to watch in the coming years.

Specifically, the first generation Cooper S and John Cooper Works models released back in 2005 and 2006 were the ideal selections.

He said prices have recently increased, suggesting there could be interest long into the future.

Mike made the suggestions when asked to suggest a series of second-hand used cars that motorists should snap up in 2024.

Speaking to The Telegraph, he explained: “They’re becoming modern classics as we speak. The Mini community hated them at the beginning, but now they absolutely love them and they’ve generally been accepted.

“They’re on the ascent in terms of price. They did go down, but now they’ve bumped back up.”

The Mini Cooper S hatchback model could produce 170bhp and reach 0-60mph in just seven seconds.

On fuel consumption, the Cooper S could reach 32mpg and around 352 miles on a single tank.

Mini achieved notable success around this period with the brand named Car Manufacturer of the Year by AutoCar in November 2005.

Earlier in the year, the Mini Cooper S also secured AutoExpress’ ‘Used Car of the Year’ prize.

According to motoring experts at Parkers, the Mini Cooper S models were priced at between £14,545 and £20,970 when they were launched.

However, second-hand models can now be picked up for anywhere from £915 to £3,555.

AutoTrader, the leading new and used car marketplace, has models listed for around £2,500.

However, some examples are available for around £1,500 making this an affordable purchase for any budget.

But, those on the market for a second-hand model might look no further than an approved Mini dealer which comes with a range of benefits.

Motorists who purchase directly from the brand will be able to take advantage of a minimum 12-month warranty.

Buyers will also secure roadside assistance and MOT Cover as well as further checks.

Mini technicians will thoroughly inspect each car before giving a seal of approval if it is in a good condition.
