BBC Breakfast weather presenter Carol Kirkwood has shared the sweet gesture her husband makes each morning.

The 62-year-old presenter returned to screens this week following a three-week break from the morning news programme. Carol, who usually delivers the forecast from Monday to Thursday, confirmed her absence from the show after Matt Taylor announced that he would be appearing on the show for the next three weeks.

Carol married husband Steve Randall in an intimate ceremony in Buckinghamshire in December 2023, after she announced her engagement live on BBC Breakfast from the Chelsea Flower Show in 2022.

At the time, she showed off her engagement ring during a weather forecast and said: "We went out for a picnic, I had absolutely no idea.

"The weather was glorious, we were sitting chatting... he was fumbling in his pocket and then out came a ring, I thought he was joking actually, I didn't believe him to start with."

Speaking on the show after her wedding, Carol said: "It was the most perfect and romantic and intimate wedding. We are both so incredibly happy."

While the couple kept their nuptials low-key, Carol insisted the wedding was not a 'secret', but rather a 'private' one.

It is the presenter's second marriage following her divorce from property developer Jimmy Kirkwood, who she split from in 2008 after 18 years of marriage.

Steve has been married once before, having one child with his wife of 12 years Nichola Randall.

Carol has chosen to keep her relationship with husband Steve, 13 years her junior, out of the spotlight, but she previously told Prima Magazine that he was "extremely handsome" and "always making me laugh".

She also shared the small romantic gesture he makes every day, adding:"He always makes me a cup of tea before I go to work in the morning, which is very romantic - it's 2.45am! And he often leaves me a little love note for when I come home from work. That, to me, is worth a million red roses."

Carol added that he was "the best thing that's ever happened to me, without a shadow of a doubt".

Carol and Steve first met back in 2017 and were just friends at first. "I met Steve in my 50s; we were friends before we were romantically linked. He is funny, gorgeous and, also, he is really kind, thoughtful and romantic," the weather presenter previously told HELLO!.

The pair live in Carol's home, with the presenting telling The Times: "I offered to sell my home so we could buy a place together, but he's happy living here. He's a keeper. He's a very good cook and tidy as well — tidier than I am."

It's been a busy few months for Carol as back in July, she released her fourth book, Once Upon a Time in Venice.

"So thrilled that my fourth book Once Upon a Time in Venice is out TODAY!!! This would not be happening without all your support. THANK YOU," she wrote on X.

Inverness-shire-born Kirkwood joined the BBC Weather Centre team in 1998 and finished 10th in the 13th series of Strictly Come Dancing in 2015.
