A top family law solicitor has speculated how things would pan out if Huw Edwards and his wife of over thirty years, TV producer Vicky Flind were to officially divorce. The couple have reportedly split with Edwards, 62, believed to have moved out of their shared family home in Dulwich, south London, some time ago. He has reportedly been living in a flat in, south west London.

He is currently awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to making vile and indecent images of children when he appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on July 31. The ex-BBC presenter admitted three offences between December 2020 and April 2022.

Despite Edwards' admissions, due to the guidelines of family law, he could ask his wife for support unless it is deemed “equitable to depart from this” according to Vanessa Lloyd Platt a Family Law Solicitor with Llolyd Platt & Co.

Explaining the legal situation should they decide to formalise their separation she explained: "Given that this has been a long marriage the starting point would be an equal sharing of all the capital assets. This would include any properties, shares, pensions, savings, investments, ISAs etc.

"The difficulty in this case is that both parties are aged 63 and have had very lucrative careers in TV. [His] career may now be at an end and he could face a prison sentence.

"This means that aside from any income from investments he may not have an ongoing income. Vicky, by contrast, will continue to work until her retirement.

"There is no suggestion Edwards would be claiming maintenance from Flind. However, whilst the starting point is an equal split of the capital, nevertheless this is the position unless it would be 'equitable to depart from this'," she ruminated.

"His conduct may well be brought into the equation with Flind potentially able to argue that, because of his conduct, it had eradicated his career and may have a knock-on effect on hers for the future.

"She could argue that as a result of this conduct, he has caused a substantial impact to their finances entirely of his own making. As a result, Vicky could call for any settlement for him to be accordingly reduced in her favour. Conduct, if she wished to raise this, may be central to her case."

However Lloyd Platt further explained Edwards might have a counter argument. "[He] could argue he has mental health issues and that the correct settlement, as he may no longer be able to work and have an income, should be an equal split.

"The full assets of the couple are not known at the present time but no doubt will emerge in due course. However, whatever the outcome, it is a very sad downfall for a much loved television personality and for his entire family," she pondered

Edwards will face sentencing on September 16. He has been warned "all options", including an immediate jail term, will be considered.
