Nick Berry, iconic Heartbeat lead, is now hardly recognisable, having stepped back from the limelight more than eight years ago.

The star, known for setting hearts racing on-screen, was recently spotted looking markedly different from his days as one of TV's favourite leading men.

Berry rose to stardom in the 1980s and 1990s, cast as Simon Wicks in EastEnders between 1985 and 1990, before captivating audiences as the dashing PC Nick Rowan in Heartbeat from 1992 until 1998.

Despite his successful career on screens, Nick stepped away from the film and TV industry to focus on his family life.

The former actor looked worlds away from his former TV appearances after being photographed now sporting silver locks.

Nick was seen navigating life away from the cameras, behind the wheel of his red Land Rover, accompanied by his cheerful fluffy poodle.

Reflecting a UK winter-ready attire, he donned a green jacket, woolly scarf, and denim jeans.

Opting to leave the glare of acting success for a quieter life of family duties, Nick became a dedicated stay-at-home dad to Louis and Finley.

He also tied the knot with his beloved, actress Rachel Robertson, in 1994.

They have since built an intimate world of their own in Epping, Essex, nurturing their sons, reports Leeds Live.

Although a return to the screen isn't off the table for Berry now that his boys are grown, he remains “happy” with the domestic bliss he has cultivated.

The once time-constrained father now enjoys the liberties of a personal life, having left the claims of fame behind for familial warmth.

In a heartfelt 2011 interview with the Daily Mail, Nick shared his satisfaction with domestic life: “I chose to be a stay-at-home dad and have loved it.

“I always said that when the boys were teenagers I could go back, but the longer you don't do something the harder it is to do it, and I haven't really missed it. While I'd never say never, I'm genuinely happy as I am.”
