Jeremy Clarkson has opened up about a recent near-miss he encountered while driving, thanks to over-hanging branches.

The Clarkson’s Farm star revealed he was on the way to see his former Top Gear co-star Richard Hammond when he “nearly had a crash”.

“I was on a main road and the red traffic lights ahead were completely obscured by overhanging branches,” he said in his column for The Sun.

“That never used to happen. It does now. And we’ve learned to accept it.”

The TV star also raged that the 50-mile journey which took him two hours gave him a “good idea of how badly Britain is falling apart”.

Jeremy ranted about “gridlocked” roads which had “temporary traffic lights,” that forced him to make a “detour” along the M5 that the presenter likened to “the 14th century”.

In an attempt to “calm down,” the 64-year-old then flicked on the radio but was bombarded with depressing news stories.

“To try to calm down, I tuned into Times Radio, where there was a discussion about the naming of that boy who’s been charged with murdering three little girls.

“Followed by reports of riots in various British towns and cities, followed by news of yet more paedophilia at the BBC.”

Jeremy continued: “I’m not kidding. In one news report, on one day, there was the dance class stabbing, Huw bl**dy Edwards and riots in Hartlepool. ”

The presenter’s traumatic visit to his pal, came after the former Top Gear trio dissolved the company behind The Grand Tour.

After they left the motoring programme in 2015 after 13 years of presenting together, they took the new series to Amazon Prime.

However, it seems they will no longer be making TV together, as Jeremy, Richard and James May reportedly signed off on dissolving the production company they co-owned, W Chump and Sons.
