British blues musician John Mayall has died aged 90. His family confirmed his death with an emotional tribute on social media.

In a statement, John's family wrote: "It is with heavy hearts that we bear the news that John Mayall passed away peacefully in his California home yesterday, July 22, 2024, surrounded by loving family. Health issues that forced John to end his epic touring career have finally led to peace for one of this world ’s greatest road warriors.

"John Mayall gave us ninety years of tireless efforts to educate, inspire and entertain.”

During his career, John released and recorded over 30 albums. He was born in Macclesfield before he moved to London in the 1960s and three years later he launched the Blues Breakers.

Throughout the 60s, this group was fundamental in pioneering the British blues and rock scene. The group later included blues royalty names such as Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Jack Bruce, John McVie, Mick Fleetwood and Aynsley Dunba.
