Coronation Street actress Tina O'Brien has gushed over how "proud" she is of her daughter, Scarlett as she "follows in her footsteps." The Sarah Platt star's eldest child, Scarlett, 14, recently secured a role in BBC's Waterloo Road.

The young actor follows suit after Tina appeared in the sixth series of the BBC school drama, back in 2010, as Bex Fisher, the eldest daughter of headteacher Karen Fisher (played by Amanda Burton). The Corrie star went straight from school into acting and now feels "proud" that her young daughter - who she shares with Corrie co-star Ryan Thomas - is doing the same.

Speaking about what it's like watching her daughter on screen, while at the Sedulo Colour Ball in Manchester, Tina told Express.co.uk: "I'm just so proud of her. She really loves it, she's enjoying it so much.

"She's in tomorrow really early and will be getting picked up at 6.15am, so she knows she has to learn her lines and get an early night, but she loves it."

When asked how Scarlett juggles her work life with school, Tina said she does "fine". She added: "It's just making sure she gets all her homework done and stuff. Waterloo Road are great at that though, they have things in place to help."

Speaking about if she hopes her daughter will continue to act into her adult years, Tina said: "I'm happy for her to do whatever makes her happy. If that's something that she wants I will absolutely support her in that."

Young Scarlett features in BBC One’s Waterloo Road playing Izzy Charles, the daughter of Donte, played by Scarlett’s uncle Adam Thomas.

While at the Colour Ball, Tina also spoke of her current role in Coronation Street and how she will be "devastated" if she doesn't feature in her on-screen mum's final scenes.

Helen Worth, who plays the role of Gail Platt on the ITV soap, announced that she will be leaving the Cobbles behind later this year after 50 years on the show.

Tina said: "I'm really sad [about Helen leaving] but I'm really happy for her. It's something that she is ready for and she wants so yeah actually, it's good."

Speaking about Gail's final scenes, when asked if Tina knows if she will be in them with her on-screen mum, she replied: "I'm really hoping so, I'll be absolutely devastated if I'm not!" She added: "It would be terrible."
