Nigel Farage up against top TV hosts for TRIC days after quitting job for election dream
Just days after officially resigning from GB News, Nigel Farage has been confirmed as an award nominee at a prestigious annual ceremony.
Nigel Farage has been nominated in the Best News Presenter slot for this year's TRIC Awards, together with rivals Matt Chorley, Eamonn Holmes and Susanna Reid. The news comes after it was revealed that the Reform Party leader would be swapping his GB News presenting slot for a revived political career by running in the general election.
He took over the leadership position at Reform from Richard Tice and is now giving Conservative Party Leader Rishi Sunak some tough competition. BBC Radio 5 Live host Matt Chorley announced the nomination news today, quipping on Twitter: "Your fantasy dinner party? No the shortlist for the @TRICawards."
Fans took to the app to share their astonishment, with one exclaiming in the comments: "One of these names is not like the others..." Another chimed in: "I thought GB News wasn't a news channel and that Farage wasn't a news presenter? I think @Ofcom and @TRICawards need to sit down and discuss..."
A third quipped: "No one can accuse them of having a 'type'." Meanwhile, others playfully ribbed Matt about the prospect of him losing out to Nigel.
Nigel appeared for one hour a day every Monday to Thursday at 7pm on GB News - and the programme will continue to run in spite of his absence. He revealed recently that he'd had no intention of running for leadership again, following his UKIP bid several years ago, but had a change of heart after fans swarmed his inbox begging him to return.

At a press conference, he told the nation: "I cant let down those millions of people… it would be wrong, so I’ve decided I’ve changed my mind!"
He hinted that huge changes would be needed to turn around Britain's predicament, warning: "Nothing in this country works any more. We are in decline.
"This will only be turned around with boldness, with economic growth. We are going to be the voice of opposition."
Some analysts have suggested that votes for Reform will make it even more likely that Labour will clinch victory, as some Conservative supporters are switching ranks.

Meanwhile, if the Conservative Party collapses, it's possible that Nigel could try to form an alliance with them for a future government.
However, addressing sceptics about his chances of election success, he insisted: "I’ve done it before. I’ll do it again. I’ll surprise everybody."
He's been offered armed bodyguards by the Home Office in the run-up to the big day and was recently pelted with a banana milkshake by an OnlyFans model in Clacton, Essex.
His war of words with TalkTV star Piers Morgan reignited earlier this month too, after Piers taunted him on BBC Question Time, suggesting he'd "bottled it" over standing as an MP.
Nigel shot back: "I have a nightly TV show, yours has been shut down. You’re a YouTuber.”
Of course, Nigel has now announced he's running in the July 4 election - and Piers has goaded: "Have I shamed you into running?"
