Nigel Farage says GB News was the 'best job' he's ever had

Nigel Farage has quit GB News in order to run in the upcoming General Election. Describing the presenting role as the "best job" he's ever had, the politician admitted the decision wasn't easy.

Speaking during a press conference in London to announce his candidacy he shared that he had enjoyed life at GB News. He added that he had been reluctant to make the deision to run.

"I'd be very reluctant to do this. I mean, to be honest, I've been reluctant because I've actually rather enjoyed life at GB News. It has been a great job - best job I've ever had.

"I've loved being at GB News and doing a show four nights a week and doing extra stuff and travelling around the country and all of those things, so giving that up is not an easy thing," he acknowledged.

Following the press conference, which was broadcast live on the BBC News channel, he took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to announce his return. Rather than post an official statement, he simply penned the words: "I'm back."

Earlier in the day he had teased this afternoon's announcement on the same platform writing: " I will be making an Emergency General Election announcement at 4pm today."

Mr Farage's eponymous hour-long GB News show ran every Monday through Thursday at 7pm, and is still currently on the channel's schedule, despite the fact he has stepped down.

His bombshell speech also saw him reveal he is taking over as the leader of Reform UK, as Richard Tice hands over the baton to take the party into "top gear".

He also confirmed he will be standing for election in the seaside town of Clacton-on-Sea, a seat UKIP previously won. Mr Farage said he'd reflected on many of his supporters begging him to stand, and had changed his mind.

"I cant let down those millions of people… it would be wrong. So I’ve decided I’ve changed my mind!" he told assembled reporters.

He credited his predecessor Richard Tice, and announced he would be taking over as chairman of the party, before promising to lead "a political revolt".

He said: "A turning of our backs on the political status quo. It doesn’t work. Nothing in this country works any more. We are in decline. This will only be turned around with boldness. With economic growth. We are going to be the voice of opposition.

He ominously warned Mr Sunak: "I’ve done it before. I’ll do it again. I’ll surprise everybody".
