Prince Philip's royal train bathroom mirror that means he can multi-task on the toilet
PRINCE PHILIP is no stranger to comfort, and it is something he doesn't scrimp on even when travelling. In order to make sure he can enjoy the perfect shave, Queen Elizabeth's husband has a special bathroom 'detail' onboard the royal train.
Prince Philip's royal train bathroom request discussed by experts
Travelling is just part of Prince Philip's job as Queen Elizabeth's husband, but given his royal role it likely comes as no surprise, he does not travel like most people. Instead, staff pull out all the stops to ensure the Royal can enjoy his home comforts even when journeying around the world.
When travelling across the UK, Prince Philip often joins the Queen onboard the royal train, which has been in service since the 1800s.
In order to enjoy some of his home comforts, the Prince requested some special "design details" to be put in place within his bathroom.
This included a specially placed mirror, for a rather unique multi-tasking experience.
"His royal highness Prince Philip has a shaving mirror mounting next to his toilet," explained Chris Hillyard, a former royal train foreman.

"So you can sit on the toilet and look in the mirror and shave.
"That was one of the little design details that weren't incorporated in the original built."
Of course, Prince Philip is not the only Royal to have special requests when it comes to onboard bathrooms.
"When it came to the royal bathroom the Queen finally allowed herself a little lap of luxury," explains the Channel 5 documentary 'Secrets of the Royal Train'.

The Queen has a bath built into her bathroom to ensure she can enjoy a relaxing bath while on the move.
It is a design element the Queen Mother also had in place.
However, during her time as Queen, the Queen Mother had a red line drawn in the tub to ensure water did not spill over the sides of the bath when rounding corners.
Queen Elizabeth, though, makes sure she can enjoy her bath another way.
"Unlike her mother who had a red line to stop spillage of water the Queen has her own protocol in place to make sure she can enjoy a full tub without a mess," continued the documentary.
David McClure, a royal historian, continued: "It is said she quite likes to have a regular bath and when that happens the train driver is instructed to stop in a siding so that waters don't slosh over the royal tub."
Despite having some small tweaks and features put in place, however, the train itself is said to be less opulent and more fictional.
"The royal train is made up of bedrooms, bathrooms, lounge, dining areas," said Mr Hillyard.
The documentary added: "The Queen, Prince Philip and Prince Charles all have their say in the final points of the carriages' design.
"But with a modest refit budget of £320,000 it's more network rail than Orient Express."
Most recently, Prince William and his wife Kate used the royal train for their tour of the UK.
Earlier in the month, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge went on a three-day tour of Scotland, England, and Wales via royal train.
