Located on the Southern Aegean coast of Turkey, known for its often budget-friendly holiday options, is the resort of Didim. But while the region's income may come largely from tourism, when compared with the likes of Dalaman and Antalya it is somewhat smaller.

However, don't let that fool you, Didim is a destination with plenty to offer, so much so that it has been described as one of Turkey's gems that "should be on your bucket list" by holiday provider Travel Republic.

Didim is a tourism paradise, according to local hotel chain Barut Hotels, who have a location in the resort. "Thanks to its beaches with unique beauty, crystal-clear sea and fresh air that mesmerise visitors, this destination offers a vacation experience packed with unforgettable memories," they said.

"Didim attracts thousands of local and foreign tourists every year for its fantastic beaches, quiet atmosphere and unique views."

Alinkum Plaji is one of the most popular beaches in the resort, offering a vast stretch of golden sand backed by palm trees. The warm sea temperatures make it the perfect spot to go for a swim and there are plenty of bars and restaurants within easy reach.

But while Didim may be known for its beaches, it's a destination that also boasts a rich history.

One of the main historic attractions near Didim is The Temple of Apollo, located in Didyma which is just 3km north of Didim Town and 5km from the beach strip.

Didyma was once an important religious centre, with the astonishing temple once the ancient world's second-largest, with 122 columns, only five fewer than Ephesus' Temple of Artemis.

The temple was built by the Milesians and was completed around 550 BCE.

Holiday provider Travel Republic said: "Turkey is a hot destination that should be on your bucket list." Not only is Turkey a destination with "affordable" options, the holiday experts also say it's a fantastic holiday option for those who want warm weather, beautiful beaches, an abundance of history and culture and epic excursions.

"With influences spanning the Greeks and the Romans, Turkey is rich in culture and history," they said. "Every corner of the country has their own traditional music, dance and cuisine making it an incredible place to immerse yourself in culture."

Travel Republic added: "Renowned for their dreamy weather, holidays in Turkey also offer delicious dining experiences and mesmerising scenery.

"There are plenty of soft-sand beaches to explore or unwind on, plus adventure-seekers won’t be short of excursions, including quad safari experiences, mud baths and trips to natural wonders like the Pamukkale thermal pools.
