LeBron James advised to call Kyrie Irving to broker Lakers free agency deal
LEBRON JAMES may call Kyrie Irving this summer to tempt his former team-mate into joining him at Los Angeles Lakers, according to NBA expert Chris Haynes.
James and Irving won the NBA Championship together at Cleveland Cavaliers but fell out as the latter moved to Boston Celtics.
However, Irving has struggled to have the necessary impact at the Celtics and he could leave when his contract expires at the end of the season.
The point guard has made up with James and they held clear-the-air talks last month.
And Haynes reckons the pair could be in contact again before the next transfer window to stop New York Knicks stealing a march.
“New York has always been a play,” Haynes told the Hoops Hype Podcast.
“But he is communicating again with LeBron James.
“You would have to think LeBron James would be ringing his phone, maybe before the summer.”
The Celtics will have a max contract slot available this summer and are expected to make a move for Anthony Davis.
But Haynes is unsure if the New Orleans Pelicans man will move to the Eastern Conference outfit.
“I put out the report initially that Anthony Davis was hesitant on Boston because he was unsure on Kyrie’s long-term status at Boston,” he added.
“That’s when the s*** hit the fan.
“Then days later Kyrie comes out and says what he says: ‘I don’t owe anybody s***’.
“He’s come out and said talk to me on July 1 which does not scream he is staying.
“Kyrie over there in Boston, you see how that is shaping out.
“He has said that Boston are still the frontrunners but months ago he was re-signing for sure.”
