Loris Karius will be forced to have surgery on a broken hand and miss the first two months of the Premier League season.
The goalkeeper only signed from Jurgen Klopp's former club Mainz this summer but could have to wait until October to make his Liverpool debut.
The £5million man played against Chelsea in California this week as the Reds lost 1-0 to a Gary Cahill header.
The England striker struggled with injury last year but scored eight times in his 14 Premier League appearances.
And while the arrival of Georginio Wijnaldum and Sadio Mane means he might struggle to be the first name on the team-sheet, Sturridge believes it will be for the good of the team.
“Not just those two, there are other players we have signed and I’m sure it will be a big season for them," Sturridge said.
"These two players have obviously played in the Premier League and got the experience, so there’s no need for a bedding-in period with them, it’s more a case of going out there and performing.
“For some of the other players it might take time and the expectation level at Liverpool is so big that everyone has to perform when they arrive.
“For me, I’m looking forward to the season and I think the signings we have had will help us push onto the next level.”
