Berahino, who only has one year left on his deal with the Baggies, made no secret of his frustration last summer after his move to Tottenham was blocked.
But he may yet be offered a way out of The Hawthorns by Hughes who admitted Stoke have made an approach.
Sky Sports reported earlier today that the Potters have made a £20million bid for the 22-year-old, who received an England squad call-up in November 2014.
Hughes said: "He's a player at another club so I don't really want to comment too much but it's fair to say we've put bids in that, as we stand, haven't been accepted yet but we're still hopeful on that one."
Stoke have also been linked with former Arsenal and Manchester United hitman Van Persie, but was coy when asked about the Fenerbahce star.

Hughes added: "We've seen the speculation and there are going to be a lot of those stories. Some will have a little bit of substance and some won't.
"We're looking to address key areas in the team that we feel we can improve on and if those players become available then we're interested."
