Erik ten Hag could be set to lose two of his young Manchester United stars this summer if he does remain in charge at Old Trafford. Amid an inconsistent 2023/24 campaign, one plus point for the club was the emergence of youthful talent, with the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho establishing themselves as key players under the Dutchman.

Both Facundo Pelistri and Omari Forson have also previously been touted as long term prospects at United, having come through the under-21 ranks.

Winger Forson was handed his Premier League debut by the Dutchman this season, but has now reportedly told the club he wants to leave to play regular first team football elsewhere.

That’s despite the England age-grade international being praised by Ten Hag following his first league start against Fulham, one of his seven club appearances this season. “He had some good actions,” said his manager afterwards.

“He was reliable in defending and had some good actions in possession. I saw, for his first time, he did well. He deserves the position. Lately, he’s performing very well, over the last half year he’s worked very hard, showed his progression.”

But according top HITC, Forson’s representatives have now told the club the 19-year-old will leave when his contract expires next month. Discussions between all parties over a new long term deal for the star began last summer, but no agreement was reached.

Manchester United v Arsenal FC - Premier League

He’s been linked with a string of clubs both in England and abroad, with Newcastle United, Crystal Palace, RB Leipzig and Monaco among those showing interest. And now Ten Hag could pay the price for prioritising the player over Pellistri, who has been on loan at Granada since January.

The 54-year-old seemingly favoured promoting Forson over the Uruguayan, who is now set to join the Spanish club on a permanent deal this summer. The ex-Ajax boss may now end up ruing that call that could essentially cost the club two bright young prospects.

Pellistri, 22, joined United four years ago, but this represents his third loan spell following two temporary moves to Alaves. Indeed, the winger has managed just 24 first team appearances, the majority of which have come from the bench.

But he has impressed in La Liga the past five months, scoring in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Barcelona in February. And he’s featured regularly at international level for Uruguay, winning 19 caps since his debut in January 2022.

Should the pair depart, it could alter United’s proposed transfer activity elsewhere. The club face a critical decision over winger Jadon Sancho after his loan spell at Borussia Dortmund expired, and the chances of him being welcomed back into the fold have potentially heightened given two potential replacements could be leaving.
