Man Utd fans protest outside Old Trafford
This summer, it’s an open secret Manchester United would love to secure the signing of Harry Kane from Tottenham. With the Glazers reluctant to splash the cash, however, the Red Devils could set to miss out on yet another main target under the Americans. Wesley Sneijder and Antoine Griezmann are just two individuals who, had things gone differently, would have joined the club.
But with the Glazers only setting £65million aside for a new striker, the Red Devils currently have no chance of securing the Tottenham star.
That means Erik ten Hag will, once again, have to go back to the drawing board. Rasmus Hojlund is believed to be just one alternative on the club’s list.
But it will follow a theme of United missing out on their leading targets, something that’s happened frequently during the Glazers’ time as owners.
In 2009, after Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure, Sir Alex Ferguson eyed French duo Karim Benzema and Franck Ribery.

Neither player would join, however, with United landing the likes of Gabriel Obertan, Michael Owen and Antonio Valencia instead.
In 2011, after missing out on Champions League glory to Barcelona, Ferguson set his sights on a deal for Sneijder.
Yet a deal would never take place, despite intense speculation, with the midfielder later revealing his agent scuppered his chances of moving to Old Trafford.
Last month, Sneijder said: "I was close in 2011 after the Champions League and after the World Cup.
“But then, what I heard later is that because at a certain point, we were talking with United and at a certain point, there was nothing anymore.
“And I asked my manager, ‘What happened with United?’ and he said, ‘No, nothing, it’s over’. But two years later, I found out that he asked for extra money for himself. So that's why the deal was over.
“So actually, [Sir Alex] Ferguson, he told one of my relatives.”
After Ferguson’s retirement, the theme continued.
David Moyes wanted Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Cesc Fabregas after being given the keys to Old Trafford.
Yet the Glazers refused to cough up the cash and Marouane Fellaini was the sole recruit of the 2013 transfer window as a result.
