Manchester United players ‘like’ the clarity with which Erik ten Hag gives instructions, according to reports. The 53-year-old has impressed in the dugout ever since his appointment last year, with the club winning 67 per cent of their matches this season. And Mitchell van der Gaag, who followed him from Ajax to Old Trafford, has also made a big impression as well.
Manchester United were a club in crisis 12 months ago having endured a nightmare season under Ralf Rangnick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
But Ten Hag has worked his magic on the squad already, with the Red Devils finishing third in the Premier League table, winning the Carabao Cup and making the FA Cup final.
According to The Athletic, the 53-year-old’s workaholic nature has seen a ‘coaching culture’ installed.
A source is quoted as saying: “Erik doesn’t like giving the players days off.
“They are constantly working, even if they can’t go on the grass they’ll be in meetings. He is always teaching.

“Mitchell is highly regarded, although as a character he is typically Dutch and he could start an argument in a monastery.”
And Steve McClaren has come in for praise as well.
“I think there has been a lot of work done with players already in the building, who have improved this year,” stated the insider.
“Sometimes that is knowing what you want on the pitch, but also sometimes down to the advice or arm round the shoulder, which is Steve’s side.
“There have been a lot of personal developments this year. That is knowing their roles and responsibilities, but also getting a little bit of love and support as well.

“The whole combination of the three-pronged attack works well. Erik, Mitchell, Steve. Then you have good support coaching as well.”
Benni McCarthy is one of those coaches who provides support.
The South African didn’t even ask about his salary before accepting an offer to join United, such was his determination to be involved at the club.
He’s apparently worked on heading with the players, with Marcus Rashford benefitting from his improvement.
And, now, Ten Hag will want his side to get even better.

The Dutchman knows his side need a few new signings to boost their chances of claiming a first Premier League title since 2013, back when Sir Alex Ferguson ruled the roost.
Mason Mount is in his sights, amid a growing feeling the Chelsea star will quit Stamford Bridge following a difficult year in west London.
Mount’s close friend Declan Rice is another player on Ten Hag’s radar.
And United also have interest in Tottenham striker Harry Kane, though landing the England international will be easier said than done.
