As the clock turned midnight on July 1, the contracts of six Manchester United players expired, removing around £42million from the club's annual wage bill. And the conclusion of the 2023/24 PSR window on the same night has handed Sir Jim Ratcliffe more freedom to make the first signings of his regime.
United are thought to have stayed in line with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) over the last year.
But while INEOS have been active in the background, they were undoubtedly restrained from making concrete moves in the first few weeks of the summer transfer window.
Now, July has arrived. The window has opened for European clubs, and Euro 2024 and Copa America are edging closer to an end.
Business will soon be booming across the Premier League and beyond, and Old Trafford is expected to be a particularly busy hub for ins and outs.
Not only has entering a new PSR window relaxed some of the financial pressure on United, but the removal of six first-team players on the club's wage bill will also go a long way.
Raphael Varane, Anthony Martial, Brandon Williams, Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton have become free agents at the conclusion of their deals.
Meanwhile, Sofyan Amrabat's £8.5m season-long loan has come to an end, and United appear to have opted against triggering his £21m buy option.

Varane and Martial were among the Red Devils' highest earners last season, pocketing around £17.7m and £13m, respectively, per year.
The addition of Amrabat, Williams (both £3.4m), Evans (£3.1m) and Heaton's (£2.3m) significantly lower salaries have freed up in the region of £42m.
Ratcliffe is now likely to green light pursuing the foundations of multiple deals that have been built through early discussions in recent weeks.
And it should result in United addressing their three priority positions - a centre-back, central midfielder and striker - across the next month.
The M16 giants have already seen a £43m bid for Jarrad Branthwaite rejected by Everton. But they are expected to return with an improved approach.

Matthijs de Ligt is also said to be a serious option - independent of Branthwaite - as Bayern Munich prepare to cash in.

The Ligue 1 champions are reportedly willing to accept a lower fee than the £51m they paid Sporting Lisbon last summer.
And United are also claimed to be ready to trigger the £34m release clause in Joshua Zirkzee's Bologna contract after identifying him to supply Rasmus Hojlund with competition.
De Ligt, Ugarte and Zirkzee are unlikely to join while they're still representing their nations at Euro 2024 and the Copa America. But United's interest looks set to intensify.
