England are into the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 after securing a dramatic victory over Slovakia, who were just seconds away from sending the Three Lions home. Gareth Southgate's men were dreadful for the vast majority of proceedings but left it late to break Slovakian hearts and set up a last-eight date with Switzerland.

Ivan Schranz's early goal handed Slovakia the advantage before Jude Bellingham popped up with an incredible bicycle kick in the dying seconds of stoppage time. Harry Kane went on to head home the winner at the start of extra time to save England's blushes and send them to the quarter-finals.

Two more games are set for today, with France taking on Belgium at 5pm in a game they will be expected to win. Later on, Portugal will face Slovenia at 8pm with Cristiano Ronaldo still waiting to score his first goal at the tournament.

That's that!

Another eventful day of Euro 2024 action is in the pan!

Join us again first thing tomorrow for more of the same on the final day of the round of 16.

Goodnight!

Portugal progress on penalties

Portugal will face France in the Euro 2024 quarter-finals after edging past Slovenia on penalties.

Cristiano Ronaldo missed an extra-time penalty before Benjamin Sesko squandered a glorious one-on-one to send Slovenia through.

Diogo Costa then saved all three of Slovenia's penalties in the shoot-out as Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva scored theirs.

Slovenia take Portugal to extra time

Portugal have failed to breach Slovenia's defence, so this one's going to extra time in Frankfurt!

We are 30 minutes away from our first penalty shoot-out at Euro 2024, but Cristiano Ronaldo and Co. will be keen to seal progression before then.

France await the winners of this one in the quarter-finals...

HT: Portugal 0-0 Slovenia

Portugal and Slovenia go into half-time level, and there hasn't been much to report at all.

Cristiano Ronaldo is growing increasingly frustrated as his goal drought at international tournaments continues.

He went close with a free-kick but then blazed high and wide with another.

Chances have been far and few, and the longer it stays goalless, the more Slovenia's hopes will grow.

TEAM NEWS! Portugal vs Slovenia

It's almost time for our second and final game of the day, as Portugal face Slovenia in Frankfurt.

Team news is in...

Portugal XI: Diogo Costa; Cancelo, Ruben Dias, Pepe, Nuno Mendes; Palhinha, Vitinha, Bruno Fernandes; Rafael Leao, Cristiano Ronaldo, Bernardo Silva.

Slovenia XI: Oblak; Karnicnik, Drkusic, Bijol, Balkovec; Stojanovic, Elsnik, Cerin, Mlakar; Sporar, Sesko.

France progress to the quarter-finals

And that's that! France edge past Belgium through Jan Vertonghen's late own goal in Dusseldorf.

Didier Deschamps' side will face the winner of tonight's clash between Portugal and Slovenia in the quarter-finals.

They are nowhere near their best, though. France's three goals in four Euro 2024 games have been two own-goals and a penalty.

GOAL! France are ahead

And there's the breakthrough! It felt like it was always going to require a slice of luck, and that's what France get.

Randal Kolo Muani's effort is deflected into the goal off Jan Vertonghen with just five minutes left on the clock.

It looks to be a cruel end to an ultimately underwhelming Euro 2024 campaign for Belgium.

France 0-0 Belgium

Just 20 minutes left of normal time. It's still 0-0, but it's been an entertaining one.

Both goalkeepers have been forced to make saves but France have looked the most threatening, recording 16 shots to Belgium's three.

Belgium have looked dangerous on the break, though, and Yannick Carrasco has had the best opening of the game, running through on goal before a last-ditch block denied him.

France 0-0 Belgium

We're still goalless after 30 minutes in the last-16 clash between France and Belgium.

France have enjoyed more of the ball but haven't yet crafted any real chances for Kylian Mbappe and his all-star attacking partners.

Belgium are looking lively on the break and have gone the closest to opening the scoring.

TEAM NEWS! France vs Belgium

The teams are in at the Merkur Spiel-Arena...

France XI: Maignan; Kounde, Upamecano, Saliba, Hernandez; Kante, Tchouameni, Rabiot; Griezmann; Mbappe, Thuram.

Belgium XI: Casteels; Castagne, Faes, Vertonghen, Theate; Doku, De Bruyne, Onana, Carrasco; Openda, Lukaku.

This evening's action...

Two more Euro 2024 last-16 matches coming at you this evening...

First, France and Belgium clash in Dusseldorf (5pm KO) to join Switzerland, Germany, England and Spain as quarter-finalists.

The winner of that match will then learn their next opponents when Portugal face Slovenia in Frankfurt at 8pm.

Gary Neville says England winning Euros is 'unrealistic'

Gary Neville believes it is 'unrealistic' to expect England to win the Euros unless Gareth Southgate makes some drastic tactical changes.

"I think everybody in the country has been crying out for more changes after every single match, from game one, two, three," said Neville on ITV after yesterday's win over Slovakia.

"I think the same clamour will happen again for Palmer, Trent Alexander-Arnold, for other players to come into the team to create more balance, more excitement.

"Getting over the line and winning is all important in a month-long tournament.

"But to think you can go through a month-long tournament playing like we are doing and get through to the end, I think, is unrealistic."

Kylian Mbappe vents frustrations with 'difficult' mask

Kylian Mbappe has admitted that he finds it 'really annoying' to have to wear a mask to protect his broken nose.

The Frenchman injured his nose during the group stages and has been playing with a protective mask, but he is not enjoying himself.

He said: "It's really difficult. It limits the vision, the sweat stays blocked so you have to keep lifting it to flow out.

"As soon as I can take it off, I will. It's annoying. I don't have a choice, I can't play without it, so I have to say thank you to the mask."

Italy boss Luciano Spalletti comes up with bizarre excuse

Luciano Spalletti believes Inter Milan are to blame for Italy crashing out of Euro 2024 in the second round.

He said: "It all began with how [Serie A] ended. Inter Milan won the title [with five games to spare] and I made sure they were still being professional.

"The manager Simone Inzaghi kept training them in a certain way because I was in touch with him often.

"Perhaps you are not as applied once you win the league so early."

BBC pundit risks backlash after making joke

Thomas Hitzlsperger cracked a risky joke on social media during England's win over Slovakia.

He posted a picture of the food menu at the Veltins Arena to X, formerly Twitter, with an offering of fagottini being served up.

Hitzlsperger, who is gay, accompanied the picture of the menu with the caption: "Fagottini. Somebody must‘ve known that I‘m here today."

Jude Bellingham 'faces one-match ban'

Jude Bellingham could reportedly be banned from playing for England in the quarter-finals after making an X-rated gesture following his goal against Slovakia.

He was spotted moving his right hand from his face towards his groin, before thrusting it back and forth while staring towards the sidelines.

Bellingham later claimed that his gesture was an 'inside joke' between friends but A Bola has reported that UEFA may consider the act worthy of a one-match ban.

It would be a massive blow for England, who have only scored four goals in four games at the Euros with Bellingham grabbing two of those.

Jurgen Klopp snubs England with Euros prediction

Jurgen Klopp has picked Spain as the most likely candidates to win the Euros ahead of France, England and Germany.

The former Liverpool boss recently attended the Mallorca Tennis Championships, where he was asked to name the team he believes will achieve European glory.

"At the moment it looks a little bit like Spain could do it, but Germany is good, France can be good, and England will be better, definitely," said Klopp.

Micah Richards 'feels sorry' for Declan Rice

Micah Richards has revealed that he has sympathy with Declan Rice over the lack of continuity in England's midfield.

The Arsenal man has played alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold, Conor Gallagher and Kobbie Mainoo in the engine room.

"I feel a little bit sorry for Declan Rice," said Richards on the Rest is Football podcast.

"He has played a couple of games with Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield and you are looking for relationships in midfield.

"He has played Gallagher and Mainoo so it’s hard for him. He needs that continuity to know what they want to do and how he wants to play.

"Although I don’t think he had his best game, it’s going to be hard for him."

England hero left 'disgusted' by late introduction

Gareth Southgate said Ivan Toney was left 'disgusted' when he was introduced from the England bench in the dying seconds of normal time against Slovakia.

Toney went on to grab the assist for Harry Kane's winning goal with a flicked header into the path of his fellow striker.

"There's no question that Ivan Toney was pretty disgusted when I put him on with a minute to go," explained Southgate.

"I think we've made up now! He had a big impact, with the second goal as well.

"I think if you put a sub on at that time, it's a last throw of the dice. He maybe doesn't even touch the ball. I completely understand it.

"I don't like putting a player in that position, but I just had a feeling that he might have been able to cause a bit of chaos."

Masked man arrested for climbing stadium roof

A man was arrested after climbing onto the roof of the Westfalenstadion during Germany's win over Denmark on Saturday night.

Social media clips show a man climbing in the rafters of the stadium dressed in black with his face covered.

Police said they arrested the man after using drones and a helicopter to keep track of his whereabouts.

"At no point was there a danger posed for another people in the stadium. Dortmund police have ruled out any political motivation," they said in a statement.

While being held, police said the man told them he was up on the roof to take 'good photos'.
