Wout Weghorst has admitted to feeling slightly guilty about his antics that led to Manchester United'sFA Cup semi-final win against Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday. The Red Devils loanee made the headlines for a potential attempt to distract Solly March ahead of his decisive miss in the penalty shoot-out.
United needed penalties to beat Brighton and set up the first-ever Manchester derby FA Cup final against Manchester City on June 3.
Weghorst didn't make much of an impact in extra-time after replacing Bruno Fernandes on 101 minutes, but calmly slotted United's first penalty of sudden death home.
And he earned plaudits and criticism en masse for the 'kiss of death' he applied to the ball as he handed it to March, who then missed the only spot-kick of the shoot-out.
March blazed his effort over in sudden death before Victor Lindelof smashed United's seventh penalty past Robert Sanchez to secure victory.
It prompted Wout Weghorst to ignore the team celebrations and immediately make a beeline toward the United fans at the opposite end of Wembley, performing a passionate knee slide in the rain in jubilation.

But after full-time, he admitted that he 'felt sorry' for March, who was left in tears after Brighton's dreams of capping off an excellent season with an FA Cup final were crushed.
He said: "Yeah, I already said it actually before we started to some of the guys [to speak to March], but nobody did it.
"I scored, and then I saw the ball and tried to get a few advantages which could maybe help us win it.
"I walked to him and said some things, but at the end [of the match], I went to him because I also felt a little bit sorry.
