Man Utd: ten Hag discusses acquisition of Wout Weghorst
Manchester United were brought back down to earth following their fine run of form on Wednesday night as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Crystal Palace in the Premier League. Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag has overseen an upturn in fortunes at Old Trafford since joining the club last year but will be keen to bolster his squad before the end of this month’s transfer window as his team go in search of silverware.
United shelled out mega money in the summer to sign the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro and Antony, with the trio all playing a key role in the revival of the 13-time Premier League champions. And this month the club have already signed Wout Weghorst on loan from Burnley and Jack Butland on loan from Crystal Palace.
Weghorst was handed his debut at Selhurst Park and lasted 69 minutes as his new team took the lead in the 43rd minute courtesy of a strike from Bruno Fernandes. But 21-year-old winger Michael Olise claimed a share of the spoils for the hosts as he struck a sensational free-kick in stoppage time at the end of the match.
United have been linked with a whole host of new players as they look to continue their upward trajectory under Ten Hag. There could be interest in Tottenham star Harry Kane, who has just 18 months left on his deal in north London, while the battle for Brentford goalkeeper David Raya is also hotting up. Meanwhile, Harry Maguire’s future is far from certain as the player continues to be overlooked by his manager.

Former Manchester United winger Jesse Lingard has revealed he drank to take the pain away as his career at Old Trafford fizzled out. The 30-year-old came through the United academy but left the club last summer to join Nottingham Forest.
“I was drinking before bed, having a nightcap,” Lingard told The Diary Of A CEO podcast. “I look back now and think, ‘what was I doing that for?’ But I needed something to try and take the pain away and put me at ease somehow.
“I was trying to forget what was going on. But it makes it 10 times worse. You’re getting that much abuse, and I’m already down enough, and I’ve got to perform. I’m already going through things you don’t know about - I felt like the world was on my shoulders.”
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has given his verdict on Wout Weghorst after the club’s latest signing made his debut against Crystal Palace on Wednesday night. The Red Devils completed a loan move for the Burnley striker earlier this month.
“I think he did quite well,” said Ten Hag. “He has to make adjustments to our game. He doesn’t know our way of play. He only had a short briefing and last training, no games, a couple of days.”
Borussia Dortmund and Everton are reportedly interested in signing Anthony Elanga on loan from Manchester United. And, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the 20-year-old Sweden international would favour a move to Dortmund. The Red Devils will now decide whether they will let the youngster leave in a temporary move.
Manchester United turned down a return for Memphis Depay after the forward made it clear he wanted a long contract to go back to Old Trafford, according to The Athletic.
The Netherlands international, who spent 18 months at the Red Devils between the summer of 2015 and January 2017, had been linked with a return to his former side amid the uncertainty over his Barcelona future. However, he’s now poised to join Atletico Madrid instead.

Manchester United are considering a summer move for either Napoli ace Victor Osimhen or Benfica star Goncalo Ramos, according to the Daily Mail. But the Red Devils face the prospect of being forced to stump-up over £100million to take either player to Old Trafford.
United want to land a new striker in the summer transfer window after terminating Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract in November but are braced for competition from their Premier League rivals when it comes to Osimhen and Ramos.
Liverpool icon Jamie Redknapp says Wout Weghorst will have been shocked at his move to Manchester United. The Netherlands striker joined the Red Devils on loan from Burnley earlier this month and made his debut for the club against Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Wednesday night. “I can’t lie, I never thought I would see him in a Manchester United shirt and I’m sure his agent couldn’t believe it when he got the phone call,” Redknapp said.
Manchester United will not consider a loan move for Harry Maguire this month, despite the fact the defender is no longer a first-team regular. According to the BBC, West Ham contacted the Red Devils about the possibility of taking the player to the Loondon Stadium until the end of the campaign.
But the answer was short as the Hammers were told they had "no chance" of getting their hands on the England ace as he still has a significant role to play at Old Trafford.

Manchester United face a battle with Chelsea and Tottenham as the three clubs attempt to prise Spain goalkeeper David Raya away from Brentford, according to The Guardian. Raya is out of contract in the summer of 2024 and hasn’t agreed a new deal with his current employers. So he is likely to be available at a reduced price in the summer.
Raya, who was part of Spain’s World Cup squad last year, moved to England when he joined Blackburn from Spanish third tier side Cornella in 2012. He moved to Brentford in 2019 and has gone on to keep 14 clean sheets in 43 Premier League appearances for the Bees.
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag will soon discover his chances of signing Tottenham striker Harry Kane, according to TEAMtalk. The England star is out of contract in the summer of 2024 and has been reluctant to commit his future to his current employers, with Spurs facing an uphill battle to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Tottenham want Kane to stay in north London and remain confident that he will. But it is far from certain that he will put pen-to-paper on a new deal, with manager Antonio Conte’s future up in the air and other options to consider away from the club. And the next six months will be crucial.
