Arsenal news: Gabriel Magalhaes mocked Ivan Toney with a tweet (Image: GETTY)
Arsenal defender Gabriel has taken a clear shot at Ivan Toney following the Gunners' 3-0 win over Brentford on Sunday. The Brazilian took to Twitter to post a familiar message to his followers.
Gabriel's tweet was in reference to what Toney wrote after Brentford beat Arsenal on the opening day of last season. Following the 2-0 win in August 2021, the striker put: "Nice kick about with the boys".
The recent Arsenal: All or Nothing docuseries revealed that Mikel Arteta used that tweet in his pre-match team talk for Brentford's trip to the Emirates last season. And it is clearly not forgotten in the Gunners dressing room.
Goals from William Saliba, Gabriel Jesus and Fabio Vieira sealed a 3-0 win for the visitors against Thomas Frank's side on Sunday. And Gabriel took to Twitter shortly after the match, writing: "Nice kick about with the boys @Arsenal".
Gabriel is not the first Arsenal player to have mocked Toney with that particular tweet. Alexandre Lacazette also posted it after the 2-1 win over the Bees in February.
Arteta was asked about Toney's tweet at his pre-match press conference on Friday. He insisted he did not have any other tweets to use in his team talk ahead of the weekend's match.
Arteta joked: "I haven’t written the script yet for that one, I’m sorry! If you have any ideas, just give them to me, I’ve run out of ideas!
"Anybody can write whatever he wants and I’m here to judge if it’s necessary to use it in a way that I believe is most powerful."

Asked if he would like his players to tweet like that, Arteta responded: "I like my players to act in a certain way, and I’m happy with the way they act."
Arsenal are now back at the top of the Premier League following the win as Toney was frustrated following his first England call-up earlier this week. Brentford boss Thomas Frank was full of praise for Arsenal after the game and insists they should be challenging for the title this season.
The Dane told Sky Sports: "We lost the game, I hate losing. They are top of the table so you cannot argue with that, they have done brilliant. Looking at the quality, they must be title contenders."
