Newcastle’s stance on sacking Steve Bruce has reportedly been made clear after the Magpies’ 3-2 defeat by Tottenham on Sunday. Bruce was widely expected to be dismissed following the eye-watering £305million takeover of the club last week but remained in his job for the weekend.

The loss against Spurs was coincidentally Bruce’s 1,000th game in club management. However, it did not go to plan, with the Tyneside outfit defeated for the fifth time in eight matches this term.
Newcastle striker Callum Wilson opened the scoring after just two minutes to seemingly get the club’s new era off to a positive start.
But the North Londoners struck three times through Tanguy Ndombele, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min. Eric Dier scored a late own goal but Bruce’s side could not force an equaliser.
The result is unlikely to have enamoured Newcastle’s new ownership, fronted by Amanda Staveley and 80 per cent backed by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF).

Bruce’s future remained uncertain prior to Sunday’s game and it now seems even likelier that he will be replaced.
According to the Daily Mail, the 60-year-old will source a replacement in the ‘near future’. Several names have been suggested for the role.
Those names have ranged from out-of-work coaches such as Frank Lampard and Eddie Howe, to Rangers boss Steven Gerrard and Leicester’s Brendan Rodgers.
Defeat to Spurs leaves Newcastle 19th in the Premier League and without a win all season.

"I'll wait until they see fit,” the former Manchester United defender said about his future.
"We'll see what they have got to say. You're going to have to ask somebody else that."
Asked about his side’s performance, Bruce said: “We were beaten by the better team after a wonderful start.
"Problems that we've had for a while now defensively were there for all to see, unfortunately.
"We've started a few games like that, we've got off to a good start and scored, got our noses in front, unfortunately, we're not able to defend well enough as a team."
