Euro 2020 final substitutes: Why Gareth Southgate should avoid Denmark mistake vs Italy
England will have five substitutes against Italy in the Euro 2020 final but must avoid using them all too early. Express Sport has all of the rules you need for the final at Wembley, including extra-time, substitutions and VAR information.
England's win over Denmark in the semi-finals of Euro 2020 was a physical battle over 120 minutes. But their beaten opponents used all five of their substitutes before extra-time and struggled to deal with the intensity of the match after 90 minutes. So what are the rules for the Euro 2020 final?
Both teams will be allowed to make up to five substitutions over the course of the match.
However, to limit the number of stoppages, the teams will only be able to make substitutions over three points in the game, not including half-time.
If the two teams are level after 90 minutes, substitutions made before extra-time, and at half-time in extra-time, do not count toward their three stoppages. Each team will also be able to make a sixth substitution.

Euro 2020 final VAR
VAR will be in operation for the Euro 2020 final at Wembley.
It has been used throughout the duration of the tournament and has not intervened with the on-field referee as much as VAR did in the most recent Premier League season.
The VAR team is set to be headed up by Bastian Dankert, from Germany.

England will be featuring in their first major final since the 1966 World Cup.
The Three Lions record against Italy in major tournaments is poor having only beaten the Azzurri once before, with that win being in the 1977 World Cup.
But they will be hoping to change that record on Sunday in front of a packed Wembley stadium.
And speaking ahead of the match, Gareth Southgate has highlighted the achievement of his players to have reached this stage.

He said: “Whatever happens now, they're all going to take a medal which has not happened for decades to an England group and they deserve it.”
"They've been an absolute pleasure to work with and I can't speak highly enough of them.
“We know the size of the challenge but what a brilliant challenge for us to have and what a brilliant opportunity for the players to write one more piece of history.
“I said to the players on Thursday all of these other bits, the legacy bits they have achieved, people are respecting how they've been acting and respecting that they represent the country in the right way.
