Two other names remain on the agenda for Tottenham in the form of Graham Potter and Ralf Rangnick.
The Brighton boss has impressed this season despite the Seagulls' disappointing Premier League finish.
Daniel Levy is said to have concerns over Potter and whether he represents a big gamble during an important time for the club.
That said, the Spurs players are said to have privately praised Brighton and their style of play after both matches against them this season.

Meanwhile, Rangnick is believed to have held talks with the Tottenham hierarchy but it's unclear whether that was over the managerial position or sporting director role.
He is vastly experienced as a coach in the Bundesliga and nearly joined AC Milan last summer.
The new boss will have their work cut out trying to keep hold of Harry Kane.
It's understood that he has already told Spurs that he intends to leave at the end of the season due to the lack of Champions League football.
