Man Utd line up with different nationalities would include David De Gea and Cristiano Ronaldo (Image: GETTY)
Manchester United have had many superstars over the years, enjoying success under the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho in the Premier League era. And with the club currently taking a break as a result of the coronavirus crisis, Express Sport will now take a look at how the Red Devils would line up with each position filled by a different player from each nationality, looking back over the last 28 years.
David De Gea has been a shining light for United in the years since Ferguson’s retirement.
And, while Edwin van der Sar and Peter Schmeichel were both brilliant, neither has been quite as phenomenal as De Gea.
That’s why he starts between the sticks for us.
Right-back: Rafael (Brazil)
We’d have loved to have gone with Gary Neville or John O’Shea - but we need those nationalities for elsewhere.
As a result, that’s why Rafael Da Silva has made the cut. The Brazil international was good for United in Ferguson’s final years and could have evolved further had Van Gaal not brutally cut him loose.
Centre-back: Nemanja Vidic (Serbia)
Hard as nails and a leader, too, Nemanja Vidic was superb for United.
He’d make any greatest XI of all time for the club and his selection was one of the easiest for this side.

Ferguson barely had any regrets about his United reign - but the Scot admitted he was wrong to sell Jaap Stam to Lazio in 2001.
Holland hero Stam was a powerhouse of a centre-back during his playing days and the prospect of him playing alongside Vidic would terrify opposition defenders.
Left-back: Patrice Evra (France)
Denis Irwin nearly got the nod - but this side has flair.
And Patrice Evra would be the right pick, with the France international helping United win five league titles during his time at Old Trafford.
Centre-midfield: Roy Keane (Republic of Ireland)
Was there a better captain in the Premier League era than Roy Keane?
The Republic of Ireland international changed the culture of United and led by example, steering his side to silverware aplenty.
We told you we needed to reserve an English player for this side.
And Paul Scholes would walk into the side, with the United hero one of the finest midfielders of his generation.
Scholes won the lot during his time at Old Trafford and had the lot, too. He was so good even Ferguson never had anything bad to say.
Right-wing: Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal)
He plays on the left these days.
But when Cristiano Ronadlo was at United he impressed on the right, plundering goals aplenty as the club won three Premier League titles during his spell there.
How United must wish they could have kept him for even longer…
Left-wing: Ryan Giggs (Wales)
The left wing belonged to Ryan Giggs pretty much the whole time he was at United.
And it’s only right, therefore, that the Wales international gets into the position for this team.
