Man City boss Pep Guardiola reveals stance on Phil Foden England call-up
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has claimed that Phil Foden can "do whatever he wants" after being tipped for an England call-up with Gareth Southgate, after the youngster put in a Man of the Match performance against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.
Man City: Darke says Foden’s ‘the heir’ to David Silva
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has backed Phil Foden to continue improving, amid claims he could be in line for an England call-up. The 19-year-old was superb in City's 2-1 win over Aston Villa on Sunday, in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.
Foden assisted Sergio Aguero for City's first goal, with a well-placed cushioned header.
He was a constant menace to Matt Targett on the right-hand side of City's attacking trio, and narrowly missed a chance to double the lead shortly after Aguero's goal.
After the match, Foden admitted that he hopes to be named in the upcoming England squad for friendlies against Italy and Denmark.
Guardiola was asked his thoughts about Foden making the jump to international level, and the manager admitted that he's really happy with how the youngster is progressing.

Foden has been talking about his dream of playing for England for a while now.
But, his lack of first-team appearances for City has held him back, for now.
After his stunning display at Wembley last weekend, the midfielder is hoping to have swayed Southgate's mind.
"I want to be there [with the England squad], obviously," said Foden.
"But it's very difficult with the players that we have there.
