Man Utd: Nicol slams Solskjaer over Fernandes comparison
Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes was compared to Red Devils legend Paul Scholes in front of the man himself on Thursday night. Owen Hargreaves claimed Fernandes’ performance for United in the Europa League last-32 second leg against Club Brugge reminded him of Scholes. Fernandes opened the scoring from the penalty spot at Old Trafford after Simon Deli had been sent off for deliberate handball.
The Portugal international also played a role in Odion Ighalo’s first goal for the club.
Hargreaves was working as a pundit alongside Scholes and, like manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has done previously, compared Fernandes to the former midfielder.
“It’s been all Manchester United, Bruno Fernandes has put on an absolute show,” Hargreaves said.
“He’s been like Paul Scholes really. He’s not that good but I’m saying in terms of the creativity and the passes and the touches.”

“How about the touches from Bruno Fernandes and the composure, that is just a dream,” Hargreaves said.
“Mata with a great set and Ighalo just what he needed, all of Nigeria would have exploded there.
“That’s what they paid for, right there, that composure, time, great run from Mata. Even though he’s not quick he makes smart runs.
“That’s just a great Manchester United goal, that’s what the fans were used to and that’s what they can do now with these little flair players in there, Bruno.
“Great to see Ighalo, he’s where needs to be, he’s in the six-yard box, in-between the posts and it’s a good goal.”
