Man United: Solskjaer says he has ‘no updates’ on Fernandes
Manchester United starlet James Garner could leave on loan if the club complete the signing of Bruno Fernandes this week. United have been engaged in talks to sign Fernandes for over two weeks but are refusing to meet Sporting Lisbon’s demands.
The Primeira Liga club are intent on securing as much of the transfer fee up front and want more realistic add-ons included in the deal.
But United are staying firm to their original offer out of fears that giving in to Sporting’s valuation will set a precedent for the summer transfer window.
As the saga spills into the last few days of the January window, the immediate future of Garner hangs in the balance.
The 18-year-old midfielder is highly-regarded at Old Trafford and has steadily made his way up the United ranks since joining the club nine years ago.

Garner made his senior debut at the end of last season and has featured in the first-team on six occasions under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this term.
The club want Garner to gain more experience in men’s football, though, and believe regular game time further down the English ladder would benefit him.
According to The Athletic, the potential arrival of Fernandes will weigh into United’s decision.
If the Portuguese’s long-awaited arrival in Manchester materialises, Garner is more likely to go out on loan, and vice versa.
