Arsenal: Mikel Arteta praises Gabriel Martinelli after Chelsea draw
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has hinted he is not entirely happy with the club’s board over their January transfer business, reckons former Gunners forward Charlie Nicholas. Arsenal are yet to bring in any new faces during Arteta’s first transfer window in charge as head coach. But the Spaniard has continued to refuse to rule out the potential of new players coming in during his press conferences.
Arteta claimed earlier this month his transfer plans had changed following the anterior cruciate knee ligament suffered by Calum Chambers, suggesting he now wants to reinforce that area during the window.
However, there has of yet been no movement in that area, despite links with Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng.
So Nicholas reckons Arteta may not be completely happy with the board and the Scot says his former club must bring in two defenders before the deadline on January 31.
“Well there’s not much time to go but I’d like to see defenders in, they need two defenders in,” Nicholas said on Sky Sports News.

“It sounds as if Arteta is a little bit lost, as if ‘I asked you and I kind of gave you a suggestion what I wanted, so what’s actually happening?’.
“No disrespect but you see [David] Luiz last night [against Chelsea], you see the mess [Shkodran] Mustafi makes with the goal, it’s still evident that Arsenal are so bad at the back.
“[Hector] Bellerin coming back is a bonus, [Kieran] Tierney’s out until March at least, so there are problems all over the defensive setup.
“So we need defenders in to help the current situation.”
