But it appears they still have much work to do if they’re to bring Fernandes to Old Trafford this winter.
Meanwhile, Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson slammed United for dawdling on Fernandes, insisting the delay to any transfer wouldn’t have happened when Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge.
“For me, this didn’t happen when Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge,” the Arsenal icon said.
“If they wanted a player, they went and got that player and it was done.
“This is the problem with Man Utd now, even for me they’re the greatest club in the world, they’re not that high anymore.
