Liverpool 2-0 Sheffield Utd: Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane help Reds restore 13-point lead
Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane helped Premier League leaders Liverpool restore their 13-point advantage at the top of the table as they saw off a valiant Sheffield United at Anfield
LIVERPOOL 2-0 SHEFFIELD UNITED | SALAH (3), MANE (64)
Salah opened the scoring on four minutes, capitalising on a slip from United defender George Baldock. Mane tapped in from close range on 64 minutes after his original effort had been saved to secure a victory that marked Liverpool being unbeaten in the top flight for a year.
Jurgen Klopp's side have 58 points from 20 games, while Sheffield United sit eighth, seven points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
Liverpool were far from their dazzling best but had too much quality for the newly-promoted outfit.
The opener came after Baldock slipped under Virgil van Dijk's long ball, allowing Andy Robertson to break into the box and square for Salah, who swept in his 10th league strike of the season.
The Egyptian was then thwarted by Dean Henderson in the visitors' goal, before John Lundstram saw an equaliser correctly ruled out for offside after 15 minutes.
Salah then hit to post after the restart, before feeding Mane, whose initial effort was parried by Henderson but he netted the rebound.
Liverpool XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Gomez, Robertson, Keita, Wijnaldum, Henderson, Salah, Firmino, Mane
Midfielder Naby Keita returned to Liverpool's starting line-up as manager Jurgen Klopp made just one change for the visit of Sheffield United.
The Guinea international, making his fourth start in five matches, replaced Adam Lallana in the side which beat Wolves on Sunday.
Boyhood Liverpool fan John Lundstram recovered from an ankle injury to take his place in Sheffield United's midfield at the expense of Mo Besic.
The other change from the defeat at Manchester City was forward David McGoldrick coming in for Callum Robinson.

Takumi Minamino…
Have you seen the pictures of Takumi Minamino in his first Liverpool training session? It looks like the most welcoming work environment of all time.
I barely got a grunt out of some of my colleagues at Express HQ.
But according to Premier League regulations, Minamino not eligible for the Premier League match against the Blades tonight.
The rulebook states: “New players signed on 1-2 January will not be eligible for Matchweek 21. But they can be made available for the following Matchweeks as clubs are permitted to make changes to their squad lists throughout the January window.”
This means Minamino will be available for the FA Cup third‑round tie at home to Everton on Sunday.
