Jose Mourinho backed to replace Unai Emery as Arsenal boss - ‘A perfect fit’
Arsenal boss Unai Emery is under pressure after a difficult couple of weeks in north London.
Jose Mourinho would be “a perfect fit” at Arsenal, according to former Crystal Palace striker Clinton Morrison.
Mourinho reportedly would be keen on replacing Unai Emery if he was to leave the Emirates.
Emery has been under pressure from his supporters, with last week’s 1-0 loss at Sheffield United adding to his side’s woes away from home.
Arsenal then dropped a two-goal lead at home to Crystal Palace on Sunday to draw 2-2 with Roy Hodgson’s side.
I think Arsenal would be a perfect fit. They have loads of good players, but there’s not really any leadership
Mourinho has been out of a job since being sacked by Manchester United last December.
The Portuguese has been working as a TV pundit, most recently in the U.K. with Sky Sports covering Premier League matches.
Morrison admits Mourinho may not be the best man-manager, especially following the turbulent end to his spell at Old Trafford.
However, he reckons the 56-year-old is exactly what Arsenal need right now.
“Jose Mourinho is a brilliant manager,” Morrison told talkSPORT.
“Maybe not with his handling of players and man-management, but if you wanted to set up a team to win a game and win trophies, he’s tactical genius.
“He’s done it so many times where he’s been the underdog and his teams have gone and won loads of stuff. He’s a superb manager.
“Can he manage a team like Tottenham or Arsenal and get the best out of those players?
“I think Arsenal would be a perfect fit. They have loads of good players, but there’s not really any leadership.
“When I look at the manager [Emery] I don’t see him being a person who puts his football down, who the players will listen to.
“Whereas Jose, he’ll tell you something and you’ll instantly listen because of what he’s won and what he’s done in the game.
“He will be back in football.”
