Bayern Munich's star striker Harry Kane could miss a return to England to face Aston Villa in the Champions League this midweek due to an injury sustained at the weekend.

Kane has been given a positive prognosis on his left ankle injury, which was initially feared to be serious.

The Bundesliga giants confirmed that the club's medical team had seen "examinations by the club's medical unit on Sunday determined a positive development".

The centre-forward will continue to receive appropriate treatment. However, it remains unclear whether the 31-year-old will be fit for Bayern's Champions League clash with Villa on Wednesday.

Kane limped off during Bayern's 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen after a tussle with Amine Adli.

Despite not having a shot at goal in that match, Kane has been a key figure in Bayern's attack this season.

He has scored five goals and provided six assists in the first four league games, as well as netting four times in their 9-2 victory over Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.
