Nicolas Pepe: Arsenal fans will be ‘very happy’ says Jose Fonte
Pepe to Arsenal, at first, looked a non-starter. How could the Gunners possibly beat Premier League and European rivals to a player with a £72million price tag? Especially when they have no Champions League football to offer?
But the Gunners are savvy, after all. Fans have been growing impatient for much of the summer but, now, Emery’s side have stepped it up.
Arsenal will land their man. Pepe is yet to be officially announced but pictures already show him holding the Gunners shirt on social media.
It's a coup. A significant one at that. And Express Sport now looks at how the deal proves Emery has made three decisive calls.
To smash Arsenal’s transfer record on the back of a disappointing first season at the club is rather remarkable.
Some fans wanted Emery out when the Spaniard trudged off the field in Baku following their Europa League final defeat to Chelsea in May.
And calls for his head grew louder in June at a time where the Gunners looked to have no plan for the summer.
But Emery, it seems, had Pepe up his sleeve.
The deal shows the Spaniard is confident enough at the Emirates to demand big names. And, despite the Gunners’ financial situation, the club have duly obliged.
